Costa del Sol
The sun-blessed Costa del Sol runs along 160 km of the Andalusian coastline. Thanks to its year-long subtropical climate, this stretch of coastline between Gibraltar and the harbour city of Malaga is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. With 320 days of sun a year, the Costa del Sol certainly lives up to its name!
The Costa del Sol constitutes the southern part of the Province of Andalucía and is packed with a wide variety of sights and attractions. Its beautiful beaches are backed by gorgeous countryside and the area enjoys a unique history and cultural heritage, with monthly cultural festivals and rich culinary traditions that are just waiting to delight your palate.
Flamenco, world heritage and sherry
The mountainous landscape just inland from the coast (Cordilleras Béticas) is dotted with charming towns and cities that are well worth a visit. These include Seville, the home of flamenco, Granada with its Moorish World Heritage Site, Alhambra, Córdoba with its unique cathedral, and Jerez de la Frontera – where sherry was born and where you can enjoy tours of bodegas and sample some of the world’s best sherry.
See the coast of Africa, play golf and go skiing
From Algeciras, in the western area of the coast, it is only a short trip to the colourful bazars of Morocco. On clear days, you can actually see the coast of Africa from the Costa del Sol. In addition Gibraltar, with its rich history, is well located for a day trip. Or if you are feeling energetic you can head into the high mountains of Sierra Nevada for a spot of Alpine skiing.
With more than 50 golf courses to its name, the Costa del Sol attracts golfers from near and far. Even famous celebrities can frequently be spotted honing their skills on the fairways. Combined with the wonderful climate, this makes the region a true golfers' paradise.
